Cyber cafés told to insist on customers’ identity

PANAJI: The Goa government has ordered owners of cyber cafés located in the jurisdiction of north Goa district to allow customers to use the facilities at the cafés only after they establish their identity.
In an order issued early this week, the District Collector has asked café owners to maintain a register of customers. The customers have to write their name, address and telephone number in the register and sign in it besides producing the proof of identity. The documents to be produced for identification are identity cards, ration cards, driving licence, passport or credit card with photo, said the Government Order.
The café owners have to ensure that activity server log is preserved in the main server and its records are preserved for at least six months. The measures are part of a drive to tighten the safety network in the State.

Nope, så var det inte i Goa när vi var där sist (mars-april 2008).
När jag var i Goa i maj i år och i november förra året var det så på de ställen jag var.
I Goa var det dock enklare, man bara skrev upp sig och fyllde i sitt passnummer. På andra ställen ville de se passet.
När vi var i Baga januari och mars var det så, tydligen varierar det var du går någonstans
själv kommer jag ihåg att jag läste skylten på många ställen där det stod att man ska visa pass dock verkade ingen göra det förutom att skriva upp sitt namn, land och datum!
